when i first started this blog, i didn't expect to be linked to, particularly anyone i've never met. (all great blogs, by the way.) i also didn't expect to meet other knitters through my blog. i'm a self-taught knitter; the only knitter i knew for a while. i was one of the three or four original people for the santa barbara knitting meetup. on a whim, i left a comment on thuy's knit blog. soon i was talked into actually going to a meetup, and then regular knitting nights a local coffee shop. our knitting group became huge, and i didn't feel alone in my hobby anymore.

i joined the first secret pal exchange. mainly because i yearn for mail. i sent things off to marney and got lovely cute things from adrienne, whose writing i admire greatly. then there's the RAOK ring, that limits its membership. it's too bad; i thought it would be a nice thing to join.

so now there are no more exchanges, and no reasons to receive mail. i was surprised when i got back to isla vista and saw this:

thuy sends awesome packages. i love absolutely everything in it. now i want to seek out the slave to the needles creator and ask for more. i love, love, love origami paper, even if all i can make are stars from strips of paper. the prints and textures are great; i paste them onto composition books and make journal-type things that i'm afraid to ruin by writing in them. what really struck me was the thoughtful card and, as if everything else wasn't already enough, the hidden gift certificate to the village spinning and weaving shop. i'm in awe. an enormous thank you to thuy, for getting me off my rear and introducing me to people, no matter how shy i felt.

aaaaand it's time for bed.

I do my thing and you do your thing
I am not in this world to
live up to your expectations,
and you are not in this world to
live up to mine.
You are you
and I am I
and if by chance we find each other,
it's beautiful.
