wow, it's been a while. lots of things since then

my hand got better!
i met lots of neat people!
sent out a secret knitting pal gifty.
revealed who i was to my knitting pal and found out who mine was!
i'm planning my graduation!

hmmm... i'm fibery blogging because my hands are getting bored and i want to knit and for once didn't bring anything with me. well, not for once, just this week, because of finals and things in the office being so busy.

so at the tail end of my hand getting better, i get an email from thuy (hi thuy!). her blog's linked on the side, i can't see it while i'm using blogger. and she cajoled me in to going to the santa barbara area knitting meetup. she even found me a ride from erin. so erin and i headed to muddy waters and i met a bunch of other women who knit and someone who was learning to knit. the saturday after that thuy and i went to the san luis obispo knitting guild meeting and i met even more people, including mariko of supereggplant fame (see sidebar for linkage). she's very nice, even if i was too shy to say much of anything. thuy and i found a little yarn store on the way to montana de oro, where i got an anny blatt scarf kit. then we had lunch, headed to cambria and stumbled upon the yarn store there. lots of fun. and a couple weeks later i caught a ride with erin & co to the java station for the regular monday night knit group. that was fun. hey thuy, i did finish my virus!

so i sent out more california-ish gifties to my knitting pal marney (sidebar linkage). i figured i found a theme, so i stuck with it. i'm glad she likes it. and i found out my secret pal is adrienne, who is famous in my eyes, since she happens to be author to a piece in knit lit, too, and in the current issue of interweave knits(?).

so graduation... i'm doing the commencement thing so my family can see, even though i won't be done til at least december. the cap and gown rental is like $50, and i get to keep the tassel, cap and stole. so i want to put something fun on the cap, and i'm taking suggestions. so far is has been suggested to smuggle knitting needles and yarn on it so i can knit through the speeches and give the chancellor a pair of miniature socks when i shake his hand. who knows? maybe he'll remember me that way. doing the celebrating all informal-like, with a get your own lunch and hang out at woody's.

kniting progress? still working on the kangaroo pocket on rogue. swatching on the veronica tank, so i can get the repeats right. thinking of picking up cleo again, since it's summery now... well, not right now with the gaviota fires and all the wind. now that i'm done with finals (since 10 am today!) i can knit and spin to my heart's content and do some work on the side. speaking of spinning, i'm almost done spinning up the rainbow colors that i got in solvang. i started it during pride week here at school, since my friends were so involved in it. i knit with rainbow yarn that week too! so i think i'm going to make my own rainbow scarf or wall hanging in the 8 colors of the original pride flag. i'm sure my roomie would enjoy that. i spun each color separately so i could combine them however i'd like. and i'm using them to spin "designer yarn" to see if i still can. when i'm not thinking about it, it turns out all nice and evenish. practice makes perfect, and i have heard requests for lumpy singly ply yarn somewhere... ;)

whee, an hour til i'm off work.

I do my thing and you do your thing
I am not in this world to
live up to your expectations,
and you are not in this world to
live up to mine.
You are you
and I am I
and if by chance we find each other,
it's beautiful.
