Experiments in Tangible Geometry... & other things

      ( 5:55 PM ) Jayme
been super busy at school. my knitting and spinning has kinda suffered through it, but now i'm balancing the two to stay sane.

my writing for science and technology class is a bit dry, so one day i decided to make lists. here they are:

on the needles

fuzzy foot # 1 - put on hold because the 12" dpns get a bit overwhelming if aiming for portable knitting
john's hat - 2.5" until decreases, and is my main wip right now
entrelac thingy - used to teach myself entrelac and knitting/purling backwards (which is fun!)
get crafty bikini top - just needs a few more feet of i-cord, on hold because of it
baby hat - from homespun, handknit. returned the book to the public library a long time ago, not sure of finishing, no recipient in mind.

yarn stash

a cone of black chenille
~ 1 lb. black mohair (too itchy for me)
black woolease
grey angora
kool aid dyed yarn (blue, pinks, red, yellow, purples)
claret woolease thick and quick
cherry tree hill supersock
jameson's jumperweight in the blues colorway for wendy's fair isle knitalong
a ball of natural colored cotton leftover from the purse my sister and mom crocheted together
10 balls of burgundy anny blatt cotton tape (boatneck shell?)
2 balls of rowan polar in a light blue (legwarmers?)
cascade 220 in christmas-ish colors (red, green, white)
lorna's laces shepherd's worsted in blues and white
pink cotton
natural and nutmeg colored alpaca leftover from niko's earflat hat
red heart super saver sized skein in mexicana
all the small bits that i've spun

on the spindles

2 oz 50/50 bombyx/merino in peacock (really pretty and really flyaway when i pull sections... also kinda hard to draft, any one have any tips?)
4 oz black bfl (love the brown of it and it's super soft to work with)
kool aid dyed red roving

roving stash

4 oz 80/20 merino/angora (incredibly soft and a pretty pink -- scared to mess this up, was a present from last trip to solvang)
~ half an oz of usa wool
1 oz finn (also very soft)
kool aid dyed blue

wim

lynn's legwarmers - sometimes her arthritis bugs her ankles so hopefully they'll help. want to make it as easy on her as possible, all she wants to be is a normal 21 year old girl
another hat for sis jasmine - she's in riverside and every quarter she's got a class that runs late into the night (~10 PM), gotta keep her head warm!

combo wip

spindler's design challenge! i got "fish," "toy" and "a new blend." so i'm being sneaky and using different kinds of wool in one project (that's technically a blend -- a blend in the overall project), also spinning up different yarn weights, and some of the roving is already blended. so we'll see. the pattern will probably be a blend of made up as i go along and stuff i find browsing the internet. as for the "toy" portion, i'll either make lots of fish attached to a "fishing rod" or make a whole underwater scene that a kid could play in or just a giant stuffed fish.

my stash and projects aren't as impressive as others i've heard about, but it's a manegeable amount for me, especially since it has to move at least twice a year while i'm in school. now that i work, knitting and spinning time is cut by a bit, but i turn to it more and more. i take john's hat with me to classes, knitting while walking across campus and while waiting for the opportunity to set up for shoots. (work = field camera operator at school. i take a camera and wireless mic to lectures and tape them. that's the production end. next week i get to try distribution as i cover niko's shift. distribution, aka the voice in the box = plays tapes at television services that get seen in classrooms. when the prof is having media problems, he or she pushes the call button and talks to the people in distribution. it's like customer service except distribution has to be nice and the prof tends to be irritable. and there's no exchange of funds.) my first day of work was great because no one told me that my first shoot was 'cancelled' because the class was having a midterm that day. so i got paid to sit in the sun and knit for an hour.

i'm in serious fiber want, but really really can't. i can barely afford to pay my bills and go grocery shopping since financial aid cut my loans. it took them 2 quarters to figure out that i was getting my tuition waived every quarter (dad's a veteran), and once they did they cut the loans they were about to disburse. it's a good thing i had been saving. they didn't even give me enough to buy one of my textbooks. so now i work for television services on campus. unfortunately, this makes me a government employee (again) and subject to receiving my paychecks once a month.

i suppose that's it for now, i should go poking aroud for something to make for dinner. tonight is potluck (bring your own dish to make in our kitchen, because cooking is half the fun) and dance dance revolution. i think last time i made chow mein...

oh and trying to get comments to work, but all i can do is type my name in and no comment... it's odd... and picturetrail is now a not free thing, so i'm trying to be more web savvy and figure out how to host pictures and maybe my blogs on the space the school allots to me...

I do my thing and you do your thing
I am not in this world to
live up to your expectations,
and you are not in this world to
live up to mine.
You are you
and I am I
and if by chance we find each other,
it's beautiful.
